Gladys Knight started the tribute to Patti Labelle off with sharing memories of how the two first met. She said she first realized that Patti could sing when she waiting back stage at the Apollo to perform and Patti was on Stage singing. Gladys had to ask herself "Who is that"? Patty Said "I don't sing too many sad love songs, I am not that girl."
Among Gladys Knight, singers Beyonce and Jill Scott both had some words about Miss Patti. Beyonce went on to say growing up "I wanted to sing like Patti LaBelle." Ceelo green took the stage to sing Somebody Loves You Baby, Marsha Ambrosius sung If only you knew, and Marsha slayed the song.
